Melaka

Melaka is an open air museum and definitely one of my favourite cities in Malaysia. Just 1h30 south of Kuala Lumpur by car, it’s a great destination for a weekend break. It’s impressive to see the influence the Dutch, British and Portuguese had on this side of the world.

The city is quite small for Asian standards and most tourist attractions can be reached by foot: http://malacca.attractionsinmalaysia.com/Attraction.php
The Melaka river cruise takes 45 minutes and it’s quite pleasant, passing through a funky part of town decorated with graffiti’s, an old village and impressive bridges – try to spot monitor lizards!
For a nice meal with a pleasant atmosphere I recommend the Geographer or the Portuguese settlement famous for its fresh sea food.

Melaka is a vibrant cultural city and tourists and expatriates shouldn’t miss it when visiting the country.
