Pulau Besar and Pulau Kecil are the biggest islands of
the Perehentian, which belong to the Pulau Redang National Marine
Park.
Air Asia has flights from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Bharu. Here
taxis are available to Kuala Besut. If your destination is the biggest island Pulau
Besar, it's a 45 minute boat ride away from Kuala Besut.
Pulau Besar is absolute paradise! It has picture perfect pristine
warm waters, white sandy beaches and luxurious jungle.
The most common activities are jungle trekking, snorkeling
(don’t miss turtle bay and shark bay) and of course diving. There are several places
to stay. I’ve stayed at the Tuna Bay Resort which is a winner especially if you
are travelling with children. The bungalows are clean, the restaurant has a varied menu, the
staff is polite and most importantly they are on a great location!
Due to the monsoon season the best time to visit
is from early February until the end of October.
This is an idyllic
destination, tourists and expatriates in Malaysia should add The Perehentian
to their travel list.
