Pulau Perhentian

Pulau Perhentian

Snorkelling in Turtle Bay and Shark Bay - Pulau Besar - Pulau Perehentian - Malaysia

Turquoise warm waters full of diverse and colourful sea life, welcome those who venture on a snorkelling tour, in The Perehentian Islands.

There are several snorkelling and diving tours to the islands nearby. For those staying in Pulau Besar, snorkelling in Turtle Bay and Shark Bay are the most convenient (circa 10 minutes by boat to each).
I haven’t dared to swim on shark bay, those who did saw several sharks some over one meter long. I was looking forward to visit Turtle Bay! We saw five turtles, two of them very big. They are underwater and sometimes surface…I was lucky enough to capture some of those moments. Check out the last pictures of the post!

The Perehentian Specials - Pulau Perehentian - Pulau Besar - Malaysia

The Perehentian Islands lie circa 19 km of the northeastern coast of West Malaysia in the state of Terengganu.

Pulau Besar and Pulau Kecil are the biggest islands of the Perehentian, which belong to the Pulau Redang National Marine Park.

Air Asia has flights from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Bharu. Here taxis are available to Kuala Besut. If your destination is the biggest island Pulau Besar, it's a 45 minute boat ride away from Kuala Besut.

Pulau Besar is absolute paradise! It has picture perfect pristine warm waters, white sandy beaches and luxurious jungle.

The most common activities are jungle trekking, snorkeling (don’t miss turtle bay and shark bay) and of course diving. There are several places to stay. I’ve stayed at the Tuna Bay Resort which is a winner especially if you are travelling with children. The bungalows are clean, the restaurant has a varied menu,  the  staff is polite and most importantly they are on a great location!
Due to the monsoon season the best time to visit is from early February until the end of October.

This is an idyllic destination, tourists and expatriates in Malaysia should add The Perehentian to their travel list.

In the coming days I will continue with The Perehentian Specials: posts, pictures and travel related links. For now...just a general overview of this piece of paradise. Enjoy!

Fish Farm Thai Restaurant - Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia

Just 10 kilometres away from Kuala Lumpur city centre (KLCC), immersed in the jungle there’s a nice Fish Farm Thai Restaurant.  It's set in a small valley with a lake and it gives you a feel of being in Thailand or Indonesia rather than Malaysia. The menu is a mix of Thai and Malay dishes and the fresh seafood is the prime reason why anyone should visit. It’s also possible to buy fresh vegetables and fruits that are grown in the farm (bananas, papayas, pineapples).
The restaurant is frequented mostly by locals but there are a few expatriates as well. If you are planning to go with children I strongly recommend a visit during lunch time. The restaurant caters for kids (some non-spicy chicken dishes) who can also feed the fish. The fish food bags cost RM2, as the lake is full of diferent species of fish it’s a great experience for the little ones. There are also a lot of monkeys jumping up and down the trees nearby.
A visit to the Fish Farm Thai is worth for the entire experience rather than just for the food, which is in any case great!
