In Japan Ginger Pork is called “Shogayaki” that means to grill with ginger. The typical way to make “Shogayaki” is to marinate the pork in the spices before cooking. It is a common dish here and I have tried quite a few versions. Normally the menu is also served with rice, miso soup and pickles all delicious!
Halloween wasn't celebrated in Japan until recent years, but it's becoming very popular. Many stores sell colorful Halloween decorations, costumes, and sweets, and Halloween traditions, such as costume parties and trick-or-treat events are seen in many Japanese cities, shopping malls, and theme parks.
In Japan it’s common that shops, cafes or department stores provide plastic covers for wet umbrellas. It is considered rude to enter these places with a dripping umbrella without one. There are also umbrella lockers in case you don’t want to carry it around.
The autumn is slowly taking over Tokyo. The days are getting darker at around 17.30; the temperatures are getting lower, so a visit to a museum is an excellent option. The Hara Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo Shinagawa, has very interesting installations. It isn’t very big but it has a garden with Art pieces and a highly appreciated tranquil atmosphere. The “Stroll of a Dreamer”, the “Incomplete Cube” by Sol LeWitt, and “L’espace Zero” by Jean-Pierre Raynaud were some of the pieces that made a lasting impression.
A trip becomes a memorable journey only when we meet other persons. It’s only when we make new friends and share experiences, that life in any new destination starts to have true meaning. Today, when I arrived home after a lovely visit to the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, I had sweets at the door. These sweets are made of chestnut and cinnamon, absolutely delicious. These priceless gestures are the things that will remain when I leave Japan. The best memories are the ones that cannot be carried in any suitcase! Thank you!!!
