If you tell most of the Japanese that you are going to Roppongi Hills, they will probably stare at you with a bit of embarrassment. This area gained a negative connotation after World War II, because it was the place where the American soldiers used to go out for entertainment (bars, hostess places and so on).
These days, Roppongi Hills is one of the preferred residential areas for expats: it has a lot modern developments including upscale condominiums, art galleries, shopping malls, and gardens.
It also has a vast offer of nightlife entertainment: bars, clubs, music venues, and it preserved a bit of a westernized vibe.
I went out for dinner and some drinks, and ended up in a karaoke room on the 7th floor of a building with spectacular views over Tokyo Tower.
The atmosphere outside was great, Japan was about to play against Denmark (they won 3-1), so once I finished Karaoke, I found groups of cheerful supporters appropriately dressed.
