Landing Away in Japan again? Not quite! Pavilion in Bukit Bintang has a Tokyo Street on the 6th Floor, with a Japanese look and a huge variety of products and delicatessen.

The Japanese supermarket in Suria KLCC - ground floor- also has an immense array of products from the land of the rising sun.

Great to revisit some of my favourite Japanese items!

Batu Caves - Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia

Batu Caves is a hill with a series of caves and cave temples 13 kilometres north of Kuala Lumpur. It's named after the Sungai Batu (River), which flows past the hill and the nearby village. The cave is the focal point of Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia.

Thaipusam is a key Hindu ceremony that is held each year during the full moon in the tenth month of the Hindu calendar, falling from mid-January to mid-February in the Gregorian calendar. It is marked in Malaysia by a public holiday.  

Early morning and there I was, ready to climb up the 273 stairs to the caves.

I took some time to admire the entrance Shrine and the Murugan statue.

I've decided to climb the stairs in the middle path to avoid close contact with the monkeys. Well... the secret to avoid them is not to carry any food. Otherwise they will try to get it in a fearless way!

The caves are very impressive per se; the two Shrines, souvenir shops and monkeys enhance its peculiarity. A must see for those visiting Kuala Lumpur.

Nasi Lemak - A National Dish - Malaysia

I've tried this delicious Malaysian dish a few days ago! Coconut rice, curry chicken, hot chili sauce, fried peanuts, sliced cucumber and hard-boiled egg. There are several variations, this one is quite common and served across Kuala Lumpur. It goes really well with lyme juice or a ginger/lemon tea!

Playgroups & Schools in KLCC & Malaysia - Travel Tips Parents/Expats with Kids - Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia

The ELC (English Language Centre) Shop in Suria KLCC has a free English playgroup every Tuesday from 11AM to 12PM. Pre-registration is recommended and accepted from Saturdays. The kids sing, dance, paint, “test drive” ELC’s toys and have the chance to interact with expats as well as Malaysian kids.

The KL International Kids Club in Jalan U-Than near KLCC is a Pre-School immersed in the lusher green. They have western teachers and a few western kids as mostly are expats kids from Asian countries (Japan, Korea, and Kazakhstan). Their Summer Program involves a weekly field trip to places like the KL Zoo or the Kraftangan Malaysia (Craft Center). The staff is very friendly and cooperative.

Durian Bravery - Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia

After many failed attempts (over the past 6 years), I’ve finally dared to try the Durian.

The strong smell has always deterred me from trying it before! What made me change my mind? A nice feel of Malaysian adventure!

The Durian has a very strong, powerful, “no one remains indifferent” type of smell.  It’s so strong that they are even forbidden in some public spaces.

Its taste…I can finally say…is… peculiar! If I like it or not it’s irrelevant….anyone who has the chance should definitely try it! It's part of the Landing Away experience!
