Merdeka Square (Dataran Merdeka) - Independance Square - Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia

Formerly known as Selangor Padang Field, Merdeka Square (Independance Square) is the place where Malaysia’s independence was proclaimed on 31^st August 1957.

The impressive building nearby is the Sultan Abdul Samad Building. This symmetrical brick structure features a 41- metre high clock tower, arched colonnades and copper domes. It currently houses the Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture.  In the past it housed the Federated Malay States  (1897), then the High Court and the Supreme Court in 1972.

The square has also a 100-metre flagpole. The Malayan Flag was hoisted on 31^st August 1957 representing the independence of the country.

Lastly there’s a Tudor-style building the Royal Selangor Club. With its signature British colonial black and white half-timber was founded in 1884. Up to this day its Long Bar only admits men.

 A visit to Merdeka Square is a great opportunity to learn about Malaysia’s history.

Chinatown - The Old Kuala Lumpur - Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia

Chinatown, formerly known as the Old Kuala Lumpur was founded in 1857. Its first inhabitants, the Chinese, congregated around Market Square. As the town expanded it was renamed Chinatown.

I’ve started the visit at Jalan Petaling, Petaling Street and strolled around its market stalls and food courts. Lively, busy, vibrant, and of course a great place to find some bargains!

Menara KL Tower - Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia

Today I’ve visited the Menara Kuala Lumpur (KL) Tower. Standing at 421 meters this is the seventh tallest telecommunications tower in the world and the tallest in South East Asia. Located in the heart of the city it includes an Observation Deck, Revolving Restaurant Atmosphere 360°, 1Malaysia Cultural Village, an Aquarium and Mini (very mini) Zoo. There’s also a free shuttle from the main entrance to the tower (highly recommended).

The Menara KL Tower gives you great views and perspective of the city.

Sayonara Japan!!! - Tokyo - Japan

After nearly one year it’s time to say a sad goodbye! This was an incredible experience, one that I wouldn’t miss for anything in the World. Japan in particular for Westerners is diverse, peculiar, sometimes a challenge. It has amazing landscapes, food, gadgets, places, weather, etc…but what I retain the most is its people.

A trip becomes an invaluable journey when we meet people and start sharing experiences. Building up those memories that stay for a life time…
Thank you to all of those that I’ve met here…I will remember and miss you all. Also to all of those who came to visit, this year would not have been the same without you. Last but not least a special thanks to all who have followed this blog!!!
