Shinjuku - Tokyo - Japan
Last Sunday, I’ve returned to Shinjuku. I left home really early in the morning to avoid the high temperatures.
I’ve started visiting the west area which is lined up with skyscrapers. Walked through Shinjuku Southern Terrace, a 350m long promenade with various shops scattered along it, took pictures of the Mode Gakuen Cocoon Tower, and the Metropolitan Government. I should have made a U turn there, but no…decided to visit the Shinjuku Central Park, an experience that I regret. This small park has a high number of homeless living there in improvised tents. It’s impossible to feel indifferent. They aren’t a threat at all…but I felt very impressed to say the least.
Back to Shinjuku station I visited the East Side. Passed by Kabukicho the entertainment area, the electric street, and ended my tour having a sushi lunch not far from the station.

English Tea, Wagashi & Calpis Water - Tokyo - Japan
After six months living in Japan, I’ve finally discovered sweet Wagashi. No, it wasn’t my curiosity for Japanese sweets that lead me to it; it was a tea invitation from my dearest friend Tania.
Wagashi is a traditional Japanese confectionery which is often served with tea. It’s typically made from natural based (mainly plant) ingredients. I have tried white wagashi with a filling of bean paste and pink wagashi with a strawberry filling. The strawberry one is definitely my favorite.
Tania also introduced me to Calpis Water, and this was a great discovery. Calpis is a Japanese un-carbonated soft drink; it has a light somewhat milky, acid flavor similar to yakult. Its ingredients include water, nonfat dry milk, lactic acid and it’s produced by lactic acid fermentation.

Marunouchi Naka-dori Street - Tokyo - Japan
Marunouchi is the heart of Tokyo. The neighbourhood has several Gardens and attractions like the Imperial Theatre (the first western style theatre in Japan), Tokyo International Forum, the Imperial Palace, Tokyo Station, the Marunouchi Building and several museums.
The Marunouchi-naka-Dori Street is just a few minutes walking from Tokyo Station towards the Imperial Palace. I’ve visited it recently on a very rainy day; it’s such a nice street that I continued visiting it under the heavy rain. It’s very quiet, with sophisticated shops, fancy restaurants, beautiful trees and a lot of sculptures.

The Marunouchi-naka-Dori Street is just a few minutes walking from Tokyo Station towards the Imperial Palace. For the past few weeks the temperature has been very high in Tokyo. Between 31 and 34 degrees Celsius...so...the perfect excuse to go out at dawn.

Yebisu Beer Museum - Ebisu - Tokyo - Japan
The rainy season has finally arrived to Japan, nevertheless the temperature remains quite high (around 32 degrees). On Sunday it was raining so I’ve decided to revisit Ebisu, a laid back area not far from Shibuya. Ebisu has an interesting mix of small restaurants and bars, and also a fairly new development - Ebisu Garden Place (with shops, restaurants, the Top of Ebisu Tower, and the headquarters of Sapporo Breweries).
I had a very nice lunch at the Top of Ebisu Tower, with amazing views over Tokyo. After lunch I’ve visited the Yebisu Beer Museum: Kampai!!!
